WICH (1310 AM, "Personality Radio") is a radio station licensed to serve Norwich, Connecticut. The station is owned by Bonnie Rowbotham and licensed to Hall Communications, Inc.[2] It airs a talk and nostalgia format.[3] The station was assigned the WICH call letters by the U.S. Federal Communications Commission.[4] John Deme was the founder and original owner of WNOC 1400 AM, which went on the air from Norwich with 250 watts in September 1946. It changed its call sign to WICH on May 27, 1949, moved to 1310 kHz with 1,000 watts in 1955, and upgraded to 5,000 watts in 1961.[5]

Old Time Radio, spanning roughly from the 1930s to the early 1960s, was the "Golden Age" of audio entertainment before television became dominant. Families would gather around the radio to hear comedies, dramas, mysteries, variety shows, and game programs that brought laughter, suspense, and imagination into their homes. Popular comedies like Fibber McGee and Molly and The Jack Benny Program kept audiences laughing with witty banter and running gags, while mysteries like The Shadow thrilled listeners with crime-fighting suspense. Later, Dragnet pioneered realistic police drama, and You Bet Your Life, hosted by Groucho Marx, blended quiz show elements with sharp comedy. Together, these programs defined an era when radio was America’s favorite stage.
